Police Scam

There is a scam circulating where police imposters are tricking citizens into giving them money by claiming that they are the “Good Guys” and they want to keep Police Officers on the job and keep citizens safe. They offer to send someone to your house to pick up the donation or you can donate over the phone.

There is a growing trend nationwide of citizens receiving fraudulent phone calls from people claiming to be affiliated with law enforcement. You or someone you know might have received phone calls from someone claiming to be the Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, DEA or even the FBI. When you get calls like this don’t trust them. Most alarming is that caller ID shows the name and phone number from a legitimate
police agency.

Neither the Prince William County Police nor any law enforcement agency will ever call asking for money. If you receive a call like this do not give them money and contact the police department at 703-792-6500.
