Potomac Health Foundation awarded $1,791,865 in Howard L. Greenhouse Large Grants to address mental and behavioral health in the eastern Prince William County, Lorton, and North Stafford communities. Mental health is a focus area of the Foundation 2017-2020 strategic plan, along with access to health care and capacity building. The Foundation’s mission to improve the health of the community by increasing access to health care for the medically underserved.
The grants were awarded to 16 agencies and support a variety of strategies, including training current and future health care providers. Greater Prince William Community Health Center and Mason and Partners Clinic of George Mason University will partner to create a preceptorship program for future behavioral health providers. Virginia Center for Health Innovation will offer training to primary care providers on how to implement integrated care into their practices. Funding will also support hiring culturally competent mental/behavioral health providers at a number of direct service agencies, public outreach and education about mental health issues, and support of the Greater Prince William Trauma Informed Care Network.
Three agencies are receiving Potomac Health Foundation grants for the first time. Inova Health Care Services will provide mental health services to people living with HIV at the Inova Juniper Program in Dumfries. Postpartum Support Virginia received a grant to provide support groups and educate providers on postpartum depression and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Workhouse Arts Foundation in Lorton will offer therapeutic art experiences and services to veterans, along with their families and caregivers.
