Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended, injury-related deaths for children ages 1-5, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under age 14. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1-4, yet many children do not receive formal swimming or water safety training.
“We are excited to participate because not only is this event part of the Guinness record, our children are enthusiastic to both swim and use this event to help spread the message throughout our local community,” says Donna Boone, president of Potomac Swim School.
