After a warm end of the week, Virginia Department of Transportation crews are preparing for snow and sleet that is forecasted to fall starting midday Saturday. Drivers should monitor forecasts and plan ahead for dropping temperatures. See National Weather Service forecast.
Crews will take advantage of favorable conditions to pretreat roads overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Critical locations such as bridges, ramps, overpasses, and turn lanes remain a focus. VDOT asks those drivers who are out overnight to give tanker trucks and trailing safety vehicles room to work. Pretreatment vehicles are heavy, not as agile as passenger vehicles, and require a larger turning radius.
By lunchtime Saturday, plow trucks will stage along roadways, ready to treat roads once snow and sleet begin to fall.
