On Tuesday, June 7 from 9:30 a. m.-1:30 p. m., the Prince William Chamber of Commerce will present Philanthropic Partnerships: Building a Stronger Community Together. The event will be held at the Manassas Park Community Center. This new program is designed to bring together for-profit and not-for-profit organizations to share their information, ideas and resources with a goal of improving the quality of life for all residents of Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. The program will feature keynote speaker Eileen Ellsworth, President of The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia, who will talk over lunch about the future of non-profits in Northern Virginia. The Community Foundation of Northern Virginia was recently written up in the Washington Business Journal, where they announced a plan to create a $500,000 endowment for their “Innovation Fund,” which is run under a venture philanthropy model that allows donors to fund investment opportunities in Northern Virginia to diversify the local economy. The fund helped create George Mason University’s Innovation lab on their Science & Technology Campus in Manassas. Philanthropic Partnerships will also feature facilitated roundtable discussions on varied topics to include Turn Fundraising into FUNdraising; Training Map for your Board of Directors; What’s Your Story?; Information Overload! How to Find Each Other; What Keeps You Up at Night; Corporate Philanthropy: What’s In It for You? All attendees will also take home a resource guide containing information on how to find the right community partners for your organization.
“Philanthropic Partnerships is a program that will bring local businesses and not-for-profit organizations in the community to the table to talk about what kinds of partnerships they are each looking to formulate. When these strategic community partnerships are done well, they can be game-changers for everyone involved,” says Prince William Chamber President & CEO Debbie Jones. “The Chamber is all about building a stronger community, and personally I believe that there is much to be said for working smarter. We are excited to continue to be the connector between local business and the not-for-profit community with this new event, so that they can impact the Prince William region in a big way.”
