This week, the Prince William Chamber of Commerce announced the selection of Access Point Public Affairs to provide advocacy services to the Chamber for the 2023 Virginia General Assembly session, which will commence on Jan. 11, 2023.

As the largest chamber in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, the Prince William Chamber is well positioned to be a strong advocate for common-sense policies that foster prosperity in Northern Virginia.

“It just made sense to bring on Access Point to enable us to proactively support policies and investments that promote and protect a business-friendly environment and high quality of life for those who live, work and spend time in the region,” said V. Rick Nishanian, Chair of the Chamber’ Board.

The Chamber’s Legislative Committee Chair, Marty Nohe, added, “We believe that, with the Access Point team, we’ll be able to elevate our engagement at the state level, building on our strong relationships with the Prince William delegation, to support the Chamber’s priorities during the coming legislative session.”

Access Point is not new to working with chambers of commerce. In addition to having experience representing other chambers at the state level, the Access Point team also brings experience as chamber staff members and as volunteer leaders. Firm co-founders Mike Carlin and Mindy Williams Carlin both worked as staff members at the Northern Virginia Chamber (formerly the Fairfax County Chamber) and Vice President Emily Reynolds served as Executive Director of Governmental Affairs at the Hampton Roads Chamber before joining Access Point. In addition, Mike Carlin served as a long-time Board member for the Prince William Chamber and Chair of the Board for the Northern Virginia Chamber. Mindy Carlin served as Board Chair for the Loudoun County Chamber as well as a board member at several other Virginia business organizations.

“Supporting chambers of commerce is a part of our company DNA,” said Ms. Carlin, who serves as the firm’s President. “Our team brings a unique perspective and intuitive understanding of how to advance and protect the interests of chambers of commerce and the businesses they represent.”

Collaboration and communications will be key components of Access Point’s work for the Prince William Chamber, in addition to being on-hand full-time in Richmond throughout the legislative session.

“The pace of action when the legislature is in session really requires a full-time presence in Richmond,” said Reynolds, who will serve as the lead lobbyist for the Chamber. “It’s our job to not only represent the Chamber’s interests but also provide opportunities for Chamber members to stay up-to-date and engage in the political process.”
