Building safety and fire prevention officials work year-round to see that buildings in Prince William County are safely built.
Safety, energy, and fire prevention codes, set by the widely accepted International Code Council, inform the work of County safety officials, who are dedicated to upholding safeguards to protect the public from fire and from natural disasters, such as snowstorms, earthquakes, tornadoes, woodland fires, and hurricanes.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed May as Building Safety Month to encourage everyone to reflect on the value these Codes add to ensuring our buildings where people live, work, worship, play, and learn are safe, and to recognize that safety codes implemented by local and state agencies have saved countless lives.
“Prevent, Prepare, Protect. Building Codes Save” is this year’s theme with weekly themes that include: Energy and Innovation for week one; week two’s theme is Training the Next Generation; week three is Water Safety , and week four is Disaster Preparedness.
During Building Safety Month, citizens are encouraged to consider and acknowledge the service provided to everyone by local and state building departments, fire departments and federal agencies to protect lives and property.
