Prince William County Supervisor Frank J. Principi announced a Fast Ferry Summit will be held on September 21 at Occoquan Harbour Marina in Woodbridge. The event will encompass meetings during the day and town hall in the evening for the public. The Summit will bring together local, state,
and federal government officials, Fast Ferry owners and operators, military, marina owners and operators, and academia to continue efforts to launch Fast Ferry service on the Occoquan, Potomac, and Anacostia Rivers in the National Capital Region.

“Fast Ferry is an opportunity for Prince William County to incorporate an underutilized asset into our
overburdened transportation system. Northern Virginia is projected to grow by double digits by 2040 and we already have some of the worst traffic in the country. We need innovative solutions to address this growing problem. Getting commuters out of their vehicles and putting them on the river will be a giant step forward towards the goal of a truly multi-modal transportation system.

“The Summit is part of an ongoing study commissioned by the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and conducted by Nelson Nygard to detail the shore-side infrastructure needs of marinas to bring Fast Ferry to Woodbridge, specifically looking at Belmont Bay and Occoquan Marina. The Fast Ferry Summit is also an opportunity for the public to understand the progress that has been made towards the vision of bringing Fast Ferry to the Potomac and to Prince William County.”

Portions of the event open to the public are:

4:30 -6:30 p. m., Occoquan Marina, Fast Ferry Demonstration Ride
6:30-9:00 p. m., Harbour View Fast Ferry Town Hall
