For the second year in a row, Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center has been named a Top Teaching Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. Leapfrog is a national nonprofit health care organization that evaluates the safe-care practices of hospitals.

The annual Top Teaching Hospital distinction is one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. The Leapfrog Group assesses performance across several categories, including the use of technology to ensure safer care, leadership policies and practices, infection rates and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors.

“We are so very proud to receive recognition from The Leapfrog Group as a Top Teaching Hospital. [This is] a benchmark our medical staff and team members strive to achieve,” said Stephen Smith, M.D., president and COO of Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center.

Novant Health UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center is one of the six Virginia hospitals recognized nationally among a total of 60 Top Teaching Hospitals. The Top Teaching Hospital Award follows the medical center earning an “A” grade in the 2019 fall and spring for patient safety.

“This recognition demonstrates our organization’s continued commitment to ensure safer and higher-quality care for our patients. .. [It] recognizes our commitment to providing the next generation of medical professionals the education, training and experience they need to excel in their respective specialties,” said Dr. Smith.
