Prince William native Averi Drummer has released a poetry book, Blumaniterrian. The book is available on Amazon, and Etsy under Drummer’s pen name Sienna V. Feruzi. It contains a variety of womanist/empowering prose and poetry, spiritual poems, abuse survivor reflections, poems about family and society, and more.

Drummer said that participating in local Christian groups and churches (particularly First Baptist Church in Manassas) and in Girl Scouts instilled her great connection to the church, nature, and girls’ rights. Drummer said, “My days at Battlefield High made me feel more aware of social and racial issues for sure … [T]he time also allowed me to become more engaged in a variety of community service clubs, societies and sports. That made me healthier, more social and more well-rounded.”

Drummer said, “My main inspiration for poetry stemmed from my fifth grade English teacher Mrs. Hanna, who is a poet.” Her subsequent English teachers at Pennington Traditional School and Battlefield High School built upon Mrs. Hanna’s inspiration.

Drummer’s sister Edie Drummer and graphic designer Erik Littlefield illustrated the book.
