07/16/2015 Colonial Children’s Games

Time:  3 Sessions:  11:00-11:45 a.m., 1:00-1:45 p.m., and 3:00-3:45 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center
Find out what games children used to play during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Race hoops against each other and play a game of catch called Graces. Learn what a Jacob’s ladder does and test your hand/eye coordination with a round of Cup and Ball.
Appropriate for children 4 years old and up.

07/17/2015 Pond Play!

Time:  11:00 a.m. – 11:45 p.m.
Location: Pond by Playground
Explore the animals that live in our pond. You’ll get to see frogs, turtles, and fish. A ranger will use nets to catch animals that are under the water so you can see them up close and personal.

07/17/2015 Stump the Ranger

Time:  1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.
Location: Playground
Have you got a nature question you have been burning to ask someone? Do you live for local history facts? Come down to Leesylvania State Park’s picnic area and see if you can’t stump the ranger. We’ll be answering questions and sharing our knowledge of the park’s environment and history.

Time:  3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Location: Fishing Pier
During the spring and summer osprey dominate the skies over Leesylvania as they build nests and raise their young. Join a ranger near the fishing pier in the picnic area to get a closer look at these feathered fishermen. Learn where they go in the winter and what adaptations they have that make them so good at living over the water.

07/18/2015 Canoe Tour

Time:  10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: Register at the Visitor Center and then meet at Canoe Launch
Join a ranger for a guided canoe tour on Powell’s Creek. You’ll get to see wildlife, marsh plants, and test your skills in a canoe. Please register with the Visitor Center 24 hours in advance for the tour. Fee is $9.00 per person, or $6.00 per person when reserving for groups of 4 or more.

07/21/2015 Friends of Leesylvania Monthly Meeting

Time:  7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Visitor Center
The Friends Leesylvania State Park help the park serve visitors and protect the park’s natural resources. The group raises money and supports park programs such as the Junior Rangers, Free Kids Fishing Tournaments, and Haunted History Hikes. Friends also help guests and promote the park’s unique nature and history, as well as fishing, boating and more. Members have many interests and various backgrounds. There are several membership options. Feel free to email Friends of Leesylvania (friendsofleesylvania@gmail.com) to learn more or come to one of their meetings. They meet the third Tuesday of each month.
