In honor of America Recycles Day, the City of Manassas is teaming up with the Martin K. Alloy Boys & Girls Club of Manassas, American Disposal Services and Savers for a special fashion show. On Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 6:00 p. m., at the Martin K. Alloy Boys & Girls Club of Manassas, 9501 Dean Park Lane, Manassas, VA 20110, students nine to 13 years old from the Boys & Girls Club will foray into fashion using reused and modified textiles from Savers.
The students were given a shopping trip to Savers for materials and inspiration for their own designs. Working with the City of Manassas Recycling Coordinator, the students then used the next sessions to create their masterpieces. On Nov. 15, these same students will premiere their new/reused designs in conjunction with America Recycles Day.
Judges for the event come from the City of Manassas, American Disposal Services, Savers and the Citizens Advisory Council on Solid Waste. A winning design will be selected along with awards for runners up.
“The Boys and Girls Club is thrilled for the support that Savers is providing to take our future designers and creative thinkers to the next level,” said Nadia Pedersen, Boys & Girls Club Branch Director. “We are grateful for all of the support that Savers is providing our club and the time being investing in our youth.”
Those attending the event can participate in a “Fill-the-Truck” event. The boys and Girls Club will be collecting gently used clothing and shoes and will receive a donation for each pound of clothing collected.
