PRTC will hold two public hearings next week to present its proposed Fiscal Year 2016 budget and accept public comments about the plan.

The $68 million budget is austere because of financial limitations. The proposed budget calls for:

  • Ceasing operation of the Route 1 OmniRide route, which offers two trips daily;
  • Increasing fares, which if approved, would be the first fare change since July 2013 in keeping with PRTC’s policy of increasing fares every other year;
  • Operating two new OmniRide commuter bus routes to the Mark Center in Alexandria with 100% of the funding coming from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation; and
  • Applying for federal grants for various PRTC and Virginia Railway Express projects.

The hearings will begin with presentations at 7 p.m. followed by an opportunity for public comment. Hearings will be held on:
Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the PRTC Transit Center
14700 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192

Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Manassas City Hall
9027 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110

The proposed FY 2016 PRTC budget is available online. Print copies are available upon request by emailing Comments will be accepted at the hearings, via email to, or via regular mail by March 17, 2015 to:
