Public Comment Sought for CALEA Re-Accreditation

The Manassas City Police Department is scheduled for a virtual on-site assessment as part of a program to maintain its internationally accredited status through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). CALEA’s voluntary accreditation process improves the delivery of public safety services by requiring agencies to meet an established set of professional standards.

CALEA’s team of assessors will conduct a virtual on-site assessment of the department’s compliance with the accreditation standards. Pursuant to this effort, the Commission requires the department to meet and maintain state-of-the-art standards in the following four areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the virtual on-site assessment, department members and members of the community are invited to provide comments on the department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation.

Comment can be provided to the Assessment Team through the following ways:

Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the Public Information Session, are limited to five minutes. Comments should address the Department’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.
