The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation welcomes the public to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Marine Corps with events at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on Nov. 10. The day features a variety of activities for all ages — and admission and parking are free.
Guests may enjoy a live performance by the string quartet from “The President’s Own” Marine Band, take part in ceremonial cake-cutting events at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and sample slices of the traditional Marine Corps birthday cake throughout the day.
The museum’s signature film, We, The Marines, will screen at various times in the Medal of Honor Theater. Visitors can also stop by the U.S. Mint pop-up in the theater lobby to purchase a 250th USMC Anniversary commemorative coin, dine at the Tun Tavern or Devil Dog Diner, discover hidden 250th limited edition challenge coins throughout Semper Fidelis Memorial Park and the Chapel, and honor veterans by placing flags along the park’s trails (while supplies last).
Whether you have an hour or a full day, the National Museum of the Marine Corps offers an unforgettable way to honor the history, traditions, and spirit of America’s Marines. Learn more at marine250.com/marine250-at-nmmc.
Despite the ongoing federal shutdown, a portion of the Museum will remain open for this milestone celebration. In accordance with the Anti-Deficiency Act, federal agencies are prohibited from incurring obligations that exceed or precede appropriated funding. However, no government obligation will be incurred thanks to the generosity of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, which will provide the ceremonial cake and livestream the event. All participants in the official ceremony will be active-duty or retired Marines, and the event remains open to the public.
Please note: Outside of this special occasion, the Museum’s restaurants, store, and Medal of Honor Theater remain closed due to the shutdown. However, for this one-day milestone celebration, the Foundation will reopen these spaces to ensure a full and meaningful experience for all who come together to celebrate the Corps’ 250th birthday.
About the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation
Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Marine Corps history, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation was established in 1979 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The Foundation supports the historical programs of the Marine Corps in ways not possible through government funds, providing grants and scholarships for research, restoration, and commissioning of Marine Corps artifacts and landmarks. It secured the funding for the construction of the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Heritage Center in Triangle, Virginia, and continues to expand programs both at the Museum and beyond.
