April is “Month of the Military Child,” and PWCS is happy to support the military students in our schools. The average military child moves every one to three years, experiences six tonine school moves throughout their educational career, and experiences multiple periods of separation or deployments. Nationally, there are two million military-connected children.
Even though there are challenges, military children are very resilient and thrive with the support of their family, schools, and community. There are approximately 71,000 school-age military-connected children of active duty personnel in Virginia. In PWCS, it is estimated that we educate about 10,000 military-connected students on average.
Please join with PWCS students and staff to show your support for military children on Friday, April 13, by wearing purple. Encourage your entire school community to #PurpleUp! Why purple? Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, combining Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue.
This is a special way of showing support and recognition for the sacrifices that come with having military family members.
