REALTOR® Association of Prince William (PWAR) hosted a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on Aug. 22 in Woodbridge. PWAR answered the call for donors when the American Red Cross was facing an emergency shortage this summer. During the summer, the American Red Cross has little access to high school and college students, who account for 17% of the U.S. blood supply.

Nearly 30 pints of blood were collected during a five-hour period, thanks to donors and other volunteers. According to the American Red Cross, each blood donation can help save up to three lives. Over eleven hundred pints of blood are used to save lives every day in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

“Hosting a blood drive coincides with PWAR’s core values of giving back to the community,” said April Thomas, PWAR CEO. “With a simple blood donation, we have the ability to help save the life of someone who could be a coworker, loved one or neighbor. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the American Red Cross to host future blood drives.”
