Participants in this year’s Wills for Veterans program

The Prince William County Bar Association recently partnered with the PWC Area Agency on Aging to sponsor a Wills for Veterans Program to meet the goal of providing end of life documents including simple wills, powers of attorney and medical directives for veterans and their spouses, free of charge.

Attorneys Anna Bristle with Bristle & Yi Law and Tim Aiken with Compton & Duling, LC took the lead in organizing this year’s program, which included training seminars for local attorneys, education sessions for local veterans, and document drafting and signing sessions, where it all came together.  In all, 14 local attorneys volunteered to assist 70 veterans and their spouses with end of life documents.

Brad Marshall, President of the PWC Bar Association, shared the following remarks with the organizers and volunteers who supported the program:  “Thank you so much for making time for this vital Bar Association community service project.  We strive to connect our members’ skills with needs in the community, and to do so for a group as worthy as our nation’s veterans is even more meaningful.”

Feedback from the veterans who participated was overwhelmingly positive, with all expressing gratitude for the service.  Barbara Diehl, Veteran Services Coordinator with the PWC Area Agency on Aging also expressed her gratitude, “on behalf of the veterans in our community, [saying]thank you [to the PWC Bar Association]for your incredible support.”

This Wills for Veterans Program was first sponsored in 2015, and was honored by receiving an Aging Achievement Award, sponsored by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging. The local bar association intends to continue sponsoring a Wills for Veterans Program until all local needs are met.  For more information on this, and other programs sponsored by the PWC Bar Association, visit them online at
