AJ Team of Keller Williams Realty announced that voting is ongoing in their 100th Home Sale Local Charity Program. Because one of the team’s Core Values is to Be A Blessing, the team will donate $5,000 of the proceeds from their 100th home sold to one of the top three nominated charities: Action in Community Through Service (a.k.a. ACTS), Dawn’s Heart, or The Maddy Wagon.

The first round of voting started in June with six charities nominated. In July, the three organizations with the most votes entered the final voting round, which continues until the end of August or mid-September — when the team closes on the sale of their 100th home.

“One of the goals of the contest is to get people talking about their favorite charities and why they’re important to them,” said AJ Team CEO Allen Johnson. “We hope it [the contest]will help to get the word out about what local groups are doing to help our community.”

Voters were encouraged via social media to ask their family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors to vote for their favorite charity through a poll on the team’s website. When visitors went to the website, they also learned more about the organizations in the running.

According to the team’s website, ACTS ( is a private, independent, nonprofit organization serving people in Prince William County in crisis due to hunger, homelessness, and personal violence. It operates the areas only sexual assault resource center and domestic violence safe house, an emergency shelter, 24-hour Helpline, Emergency Utility Assistance Program, and Food Pantry.

In a recent interview with Johnson, ACTS CEO Steve Liga said the $5K donation would benefit their 24-hour crisis line which is facing a $39,000 shortfall. “We receive around 4,400 phone calls every month, but because of the deficit, we are able to answer only half of the calls we receive. Unfortunately, this means that not everyone gets the help they need, including those who are suicidal,” Liga explained.

Also nominated is Dawn’s Heart (, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing experiences, exposure, and educational opportunities to children with disabilities through play groups, day trips and quarterly overnight trips to learn and maintain social, self-advocacy, and life skills. They also provide mentors and quarterly educational workshops for parents.

The third nominee is The Maddy Wagon (, a non-profit group established by Brandi and Edwin Garrett originally to raise funds to defray costs during their daughter’s courageous battle to fight cancer. Because of Madison’s victorious battle, the Garrett’s decided to “branch out and help other courageous children with their battle in fighting cancer”.
