Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge was filled to capacity August 2 with community members turning out to support Prince William County Public Schools. After a week of uncertain weather, the clouds departed, leaving only blue skies as the backdrop for the 20th annual “Tee Off for Education Golf Classic.”
Sponsored by Mosley Architects and more than 45 other sponsors and donors, the sold-out event raised nearly $100,000 for SPARK, the Prince William County Public Schools Education Foundation. SPARK provides support to schools through its Innovative Grants program. This annual golf tournament is one of the largest fund raising activities for SPARK.
School Board Chairman At-Large Milton C. Johns, School Board Member Lisa E. Bell (Neabsco), Superintendent of Schools Steven L. Walts, and SPARK Board member Stuart Roberson were on hand to recognize the generous donations of the tournament’s sponsors and give the golfers an enthusiastic send-off as they headed to the links.
Every member of the School Division family benefits from these efforts. In addition to the Innovative Grants, SchoolFusion may be the most visible of SPARK’s endeavors. This online parent communication system is a tool that encourages family involvement and facilitates dialogue between the schools and the community. Through SPARK, each school, parent, and student is given access to the invaluable SchoolFusion Web platform.
The SPARK Board of Directors expresses its gratitude for the continued support of Old Hickory Golf Club, East to West Embroidery, donors of the raffle items, and tournament volunteers. The tournament was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and players. See program for full listing of acknowledgements.
