Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement on the Modernizing Government Technology Act, legislation that she has cosponsored and that passed the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee today:
“Government efficiency and innovation are critical to ensuring our technological infrastructure can stand up to the increasingly dangerous cyber terrorists who threaten the safety of our personal information and that of our governments and businesses. We all have friends and neighbors who have been hacked. I have had my personal information compromised in the infamous OPM hack. The efficacy of our nation’s cybersecurity and the privacy of our data must be paramount as we work to bring our government IT systems into the 21st Century and defend against cyberattacks that have affected millions of our citizens. The bipartisan Modernizing Government Technology (MGT) Act is an important step forward in sound investment in technological infrastructure that utilizes new and innovative technologies to increase efficiencies to save us money, while at the same time maintaining an effective cybersecurity network. I thank my colleague Congressman Will Hurd (R-TX) on his leadership and hard work on this legislation and look forward to working with him and my colleagues as this bill is brought to the House floor for a vote.”
