For more than three decades, Robyn Hartfield has dedicated her life to bringing people closer to God and to one another through the power of music. As Director of Traditional Music Ministry at First Baptist Church Woodbridge, Robyn has transformed worship into a vibrant, intergenerational experience that strengthens faith, builds community, and nurtures leadership across generations.

Since joining First Baptist Woodbridge in 2022, Robyn has led remarkable growth in the church’s music ministry. The church orchestra has doubled in size, the adult choir continues to expand, and she has launched new ensembles including a children’s choir for grades K–6, a youth choir, and a handbell choir. Each week, Robyn brings together individuals of all ages and musical backgrounds, creating a welcoming space where people can develop their talents while sharing in worship and service.

Her influence extends well beyond the church walls. In 2024, Robyn served as a guest conductor for the International ATG Festival, preparing combined choirs to perform Carmina Burana at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City. She regularly directs large-scale musical productions that bring together singers from across the region, using music as a bridge between churches, schools, and community members.

Robyn also contributes her expertise as an adjudicator and clinician for state and regional choral festivals, mentoring young musicians and encouraging excellence while fostering confidence and collaboration. She has presented at the American Choral Directors Association Pacific Regional Conference on the role of intergenerational singing in strengthening community, sharing models that blend artistic excellence with meaningful human connection.

Her commitment to service is deeply personal. Robyn and her husband, retired international opera singer Paul Hartfield, co-founded Hartfield Missions, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting incarcerated individuals and their families while advocating for prison reform. Their work is rooted in lived experience and a steadfast belief in redemption, dignity, and second chances.

Locally, Robyn frequently organizes and provides choirs for memorial ceremonies honoring fallen soldiers and first responders, offering comfort, tribute, and reflection through music during moments of community grief and remembrance. These appearances reflect her belief that music can serve as both ministry and healing, especially in times of loss.

While her professional accomplishments are extensive, Robyn often describes her proudest role as being the mother of three accomplished children. She continues to invest deeply in young people, nurturing not only musical ability but confidence, compassion, and leadership rooted in faith and service.

Those who work with Robyn describe her leadership as generous, inspiring, and deeply grounded in purpose. She is known for drawing out potential in others, welcoming newcomers, and creating environments where individuals feel valued and encouraged to grow.

Robyn lives by the guiding principle, “Soli Deo Gloria,” meaning “Only for the Glory of God,” a phrase that reflects her belief that every rehearsal, performance, and act of service is an opportunity to uplift others and honor something greater than oneself. Through her ministry, mentorship, and mission-driven service, Robyn Hartfield continues to strengthen both spiritual life and community connection across Greater Prince William.
