Rockledge Elementary has been designated a 2018-20 National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) School of Excellence. Rockledge is recognized for their commitment to building a welcoming school community where all families can contribute to student success. The school is just one of 24 in Virginia chosen for this designation.
“We’re very excited about this recognition and celebration of our efforts,” said Amy Schott, principal at Rockledge Elementary. “The School of Excellence Program is a powerful tool that can benefit everyone. It brings to light ways that the school and PTA can improve, but it also celebrates successes. It can be a visual reminder of everything we have accomplished together.”
School staff and families engage in regular, two-way communication regarding student learning. In addition, there is a continuous collaboration to support learning at home and at school.
This past summer, the school implemented a homework system to engage family members with student-chosen activities. These include authentic learning activities and incentives for getting the family outdoors and learning together regularly.
The Rockledge PTA and school administrators are making a commitment to identify and implement an action plan for school improvement based on PTA’s National Standards for Family-School Partnerships.
The National PTA School of Excellence is a recognition program that supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools. Those that exhibit improvement are honored as National PTA Schools of Excellence, a distinction that spans two years.
