Tour de VRE is a bike ride designed to raise awareness of and financial support for research into triple negative breast cancer, which claimed the life of Maria Bohigas Foster, the spouse of VRE Project Manager Kip Foster, in July 2021.

The event also is designed to heighten awareness of VRE’s bicycle policy – they are allowed on every train – and to build camaraderie among staff members from the various jurisdictions, agencies, and contracting partners with whom VRE employees interact.

On Friday, Oct. 7, 2022 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30/1:45 p.m., thirty-four cyclists from 11 organizations will participate in the ride, a three-fold increase from 2021. They will follow a 70-mile route paralleling VRE’s Fredericksburg Line, starting at the Crystal City station (7:30 a.m.) and ending at the Fredericksburg station (1:30-1:45 p.m.), with six station stops in between. Four distance options will allow the peloton to grow as it heads south.

  • 70 miles beginning at the Crystal City station
  • 40 miles beginning at the Lorton station
  • 30 miles beginning at the Rippon station
  • 10 miles beginning at the Brooke station

Several VRE contracting partners will host refreshment tables along the way.

The nation’s 13th largest commuter rail service, VRE connects Central and Northern Virginia with the District of Columbia. VRE is recognized for its provision of safe, reliable, convenient and comfortable transportation. Additional information is available at vre.org.
