Meet SemperK9 volunteer Denise Yingling:

What drew you to Semper K9?

I’m not sure, I think it was a combination of things!  I would say the biggest draw for me was hearing and seeing Tisa’s story and her love of Semper K9, and then meeting Chris and Amanda and seeing how dedicated they were.  My husband is a veteran; he was in the first gulf war. I believe we should help and support our veterans since they support our country.  The Semper K9 volunteers are so passionate, and the fact that most of the dogs are rescues is so appealing to me.

How long have you been volunteering?

This month is my one year anniversary of volunteering!

What do you do for Semper K9?

The majority of my time is spent securing community sponsorships.  I also coordinate and manage the graduation ceremonies, assist to coordinate the new facility (fundraising, project planning, buildout, etc.) and I was recently elected to the Board of Directors.

What is it you like best about Semper K9?

My favorite part is at graduation when I see the end result – all the dogs happy, the veteran’s content, and the volunteers coming together!  Seeing the dogs mature and the whole picture come together at graduation fills my heart with pride and joy!

Tell us about yourself.

We (Denise and her husband, Mark) own MP Copiers, Inc. and have been in business for 26 years.  We have two kids that keep us on the go, one going off to VCU in the fall and one in middle school.  I love doing my Semper K9 work and hanging out with family and friends.

How long have you been in this area?

I have lived here for 30 years but was born in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

What are your hobbies?

I love going to the theater to see plays.  Live entertainment is the best!
