This Sentara COVID-19 update will address the following:

  • Non-Urgent Surgery and Procedures
  • Supply Donations

Postponement of Some Non-Urgent Surgery and Procedures

Due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, Sentara desires to limit the number of patients in our hospitals and facilities.  We are reviewing and postponing some non-urgent surgeries and procedures to assist us with maximizing our PPE supply and our community’s safety. If your upcoming surgery or procedure needs to be rescheduled, your physician and/or site of care will be in touch with you. Should a patient’s condition worsen, we encourage them to contact their provider.

Supply Donations

Generosity abounds! Thank you to the many community partners and residents who have graciously agreed to donate supplies.  We welcome your kindness.  At this time, we are only taking material supplies, not food donations.

Please visit sentara.com/coronavirus where you can schedule a time between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, for drop-off.

We are working with several community organizations who have expressed the desire to help with additional masks. Sentara is working with London Bridge Trading, a protective clothing company based in Virginia Beach. They have graciously agreed to sew surgical masks using Cupron, Inc. materials. The masks have to be sewn to meet certain criteria and unique specifications to have the needed antimicrobial properties.

We are accepting hand-sewn masks at our Sentara hospitals. These will be used in conjunction with other personal protective equipment.
