Sentara Health is a sponsor of the Prince William County Community Foundation’s (PWCCF) 2024 Back-to-School Community Event, contributing $25,000 through its Sentara Cares initiative.

The sponsorship supports the annual PWCCF Back -to-School Community Event on Aug. 3, as well as he vaccine clinics currently underway in Prince William County Schools that will continue through the summer.

Prince William County students need to have the necessary vaccines prior to the start of the new school year that begins in August 2024.

“We are doing something new with our vaccine clinics this year,” said PWCCF President Dr. Vanessa Gattis. “Vaccines are being provided to students who need them at their respective schools making it easier and more convenient for families and healthcare providers. County residents in need of vaccines will no longer have to attend a one-day clinic at a central location for the entire county.”

The PWCCF Back-to-School Community Event is another significant part of back-to-school preparations. This year’s event is being held on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Unity Reed High School in Manassas. Held in partnership with Prince William County Public Schools, the event celebrates the promise of the upcoming school year by connecting families and students to valuable school resources, activities, and community supports that promote academic success at no cost to the student or their family.

The popular Back-to-School Community Event will feature free backpacks filled with school supplies for the students, as well as games, food trucks, entertainment, food boxes for families, and helpful information from a wide range of community partners including team members from Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) in Woodbridge, who will be onsite to share health information and giveaways for students.

“Sentara is once again proud to be a sponsor of these activities that help students and families prepare for a successful school year,” remarked SNVMC President Jeff Joyner. “At Sentara, we are working to ensure that all members of our communities have access to resources they need to live healthy lives – and we look forward to meeting families in the community on August 3.”

The 2023 Back-to-School Community Event served more than 6,000 community members last August and this year organizers are expecting to help more than 7,000 people prepare to succeed in the new school year.

“The number of young people we help continues to grow each year, and we’re anticipating our biggest back-to-school event ever, so we’ve moved the community day to a larger location in Manassas,” said Gattis.

The event is free and open to children and parents in Prince William County. Learn more about the 2024 Back to School Community Event on the PWCCF website.
