In major support for ACTS’s 50th Anniversary, the Sentara Foundation has announced a challenge grant for the event to raise $50,000 in matching funds. This Community Sponsorship Award provides dollar for dollar support for ACTS Hunger Prevention Center Operations, which serves up to 1,000 families per month.
Kathie Johnson, RN, MSN, PhD, President, Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC), said, “Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is pleased to partner with ACTS. Much like Sentara Healthcare, ACTS continuously strives to help and support the community every day. We look forward to our continued relationship in an effort to improve health every day.”
Partnership between Sentara and ACTS
Partnership between Sentara and ACTS is nothing new. Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and ACTS Sexual Assault Services have had a strong relationship for years. Forensic Nurse Supervisor Rhonda Boyett provides informational training to ACTS staff and volunteers, and she reaches out to ACTS every time a victim of sexual assault is seen at the hospital. Within an hour, ACTS staff or trained volunteers are there in the exam room, providing comfort and support to the victim. ACTS also provides fresh clothes and is able to arrange for follow up support services right away.
The SNVMC’s Family Health Connection mobile unit also uses ACTS Beverly Warren Shelter as a location to park twice a week, providing services to members of the community. This is a great way for Sentara to extend health services into places where they are most needed.
“Sentara is one of our true local partners. We have been working together for years to serve our neighbors without expectation of anything in return. We value their expertise and dedication to the community as much as they value ours. This gift from their foundation is an unexpected and wonderful surprise!” said Steve Liga, ACTS CEO.
