Serve Our Willing Warriors (SOWW) will open its doors to 70 Wounded Warriors, Veterans and their family members on Sunday, November 20, welcoming them to a Thanksgiving feast at the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run. This special event is truly a “home away from home” for those service members currently residing at the nearby military hospitals of Walter Reed and Fort Belvoir, as many will be unable to join their families for the holiday. Holly Crocker, Director of Guest Services said, “It is such an honor and privilege to give these Warriors and their families a warm and heartfelt Thanksgiving celebration.”

The Thanksgiving celebration is a collaborative effort of over 120 volunteers from SOWW, the local community and service organizations. Volunteers will welcome the guests, give tours of the property, visit with them, play games and eventually dish out a full array of traditional Thanksgiving food with all the fixings. Local chef Ken Gardner of KB Culinary has planned a mouthwatering menu which will be cooked by many volunteers on Saturday. The food is being provided by a local community service group, The Big Give. Members of the Regency Chorale, under the direction of Ms. Janet Lunsford, will perform a collection of patriotic and armed services songs during the Thanksgiving celebration on Sunday. The Piedmont Predators U16 Ice Hockey Team is also helping with outside activities for the guests and event clean up.

SOWW Founder and President Shirley Dominick said, “this is what Serve Our Willing Warriors is all about…to serve our Warriors and their families during the Thanksgiving holiday.”
