Crackly-chewy chocolate chip cookies show appreciation across the ocean
Waukegan, Ill. (August 21, 2013) – Show your appreciation for a soldier this holiday season by sending a treat overseas. Nothing will carry the taste of home more than crackly-but-chewy chocolate chip cookies, carefully packaged to arrive at a soldier’s bunk in fresh, delicious pieces.
To ship cookies safely, allow them to cool thoroughly and wrap individually in plastic wrap. Place a layer of crinkled wax paper in the bottom of a metal cookie tin so that it fully covers the edges of the tin. Layer the brownies carefully, then fill in remaining crevices with air-popped popcorn to absorb moisture. Cover cookies with additional wax paper and put the lid on the tin. Wrap the tin in plastic wrap to keep air out. Visit a local U.S. Armed Services Center for mailing addresses and additional shipping instructions.
This recipe (below), developed by Nielsen-Massey, is designed to survive long travel times and still taste incredible, thanks to the strong, rich flavor of Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 ½ c. butter, softened
1 ¼ c. white sugar
1 ¼ c. brown sugar
1 T. Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla
4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 ¾ tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1-12 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips. (2 c.)
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter, sugars, vanilla and eggs in large bowl. Stir in flour, soda, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar. 2. Stir in chocolate chips. Using a mini ice cream scoop or tablespoon, drop dough in small balls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased insulated baking sheet. 3. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly: remove from baking sheet. Cool on wire rack.
Makes about 4 dozen crackly, chewy-crispy bakery-style cookies.
