burger battleWhen do Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton VFD and Dale City VFD battle against each other?  When it’s a showdown, or “chow down” to raise money to fight childhood cancer.  Tonight, fire and rescue volunteers from both departments will meet at Smokey Bones in Woodbridge to have a “battle of the burgers” and see who can raise the most money for St. Baldricks.

Ernest DeSantis, a OWLVFD fire fighter explained why he was participating  “Coming together with our neighbor fire department for camaraderie and fun, while at the same time raising money for a continued effort of helping out the St Baldrick’s foundation.”   DeSantis is a long-time supporter of St Baldrick’s having shaved his head in the past for St Baldrick’s fundraisers.

12 first responders will compete in the “burger blitz”, a timed round where each competitor must eat a half-pound burger. The team who finishes first wins the title of burger battle champions and a $5,000 donation to St. Baldrick’s.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation provides grants to research institutions to find new cures for childhood cancer, and find treatments to ensure a better quality of life for patients and survivors. The Foundation funds research projects conducted by established pediatric cancer experts, as well as younger professionals who will be the experts of tomorrow. Funds also enable hundreds of local institutions to participate in national pediatric cancer clinical trials, offering the best available care for every child.
