Hard work and practice earned Freedom High School’s Soul Squad Marching Band a place in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade this Saturday, March 16. The Soul Squad Marching Band will perform five different musical selections as they march down Fifth Avenue, where they will pass the grandstand review in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Thomas Thorogood, the band’s director, will lead the 50 students as they take part in one of New York City’s great traditions. This year, the parade will make its way down Fifth Avenue for the 258th time. First occurring in 1762, 14 years before the Declaration of Independence, this is one of the oldest parades in the United States.
