The St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School (Aquinas) SWAT (Students Working for Aquinas Technology) is privileged to be the recipient of a generous donation of 18 laptop computers and 12 desktop computers from the Virginia Student Training and Refurbishment (VA STAR) program. The VA STAR program is a statewide program that teaches students to refurbish surplus computer hardware from government agencies and private companies. Through the initiative of our Technology Director, Ben Wage, Aquinas was identified as the first private school VA STAR site. On Thursday, October 6, Mr. Chuck Drake of the VA STAR program will visit Aquinas to present this generous donation to the SWAT.

The Aquinas SWAT is comprised of students selected by the moderator based on their technical and computer abilities, good moral character and dedication to serve the school community. Through participation in the VA STAR program, these students have the opportunity to work toward earning industry-standard certifications which can lead to higher education and well-paying jobs. The Aquinas SWAT students will participate in a Bridging the Gap event where in collaboration with St. Vincent de Paul they will donate a number of the refurbished computers to those in need.
