(Prince William, Virginia) – December, 2014, Project Mend-A-House (PMAH) is looking for volunteers for the new year. For 30 years PMAH has helped low income, senior and disabled residents of Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County stay safely and independently in their homes by providing free safety and accessibility modifications, ramps and minor home repairs.

Looking forward to the next 30 years, PMAH is at a crossroads. While PMAH retains a core of long-term volunteers, in recent years the number of new volunteers has declined while assistance applications have increased. PMAH is looking for new volunteers to join in their mission of assisting others.

“Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Project Mend-A-House and critical to the organization’s ability to function,” said Executive Director, Jennifer Schock-Bolles, “without volunteers, there would be no Project Mend-A-House.”

PMAH has always been about neighbors helping neighbors. Our volunteers have a tremendous impact on the lives of our clients. Installing a ramp or stair climber can mean the difference from being homebound or trapped on one floor to regaining freedom and independence. Fixing something simple like a leaky faucet can prevent thousands of dollars of damage caused by mold and rot from an ongoing leak.

Delivering durable medical equipment, like grab bars or a FreedomAlert, from the PMAH loan closet makes a client’s life safer and more comfortable, restoring their dignity and self-reliance.

Whether you’re able to help during the week or only on weekends, PMAH needs you. While there is a need for experienced tradesmen, PMAH values volunteers of all skill levels. Even if you have never lifted a hammer before, project leaders and experienced volunteers will help you get started and guide you over the course of a project.

This new year, consider giving back to the community and helping your less fortunate neighbors by becoming a PMAH volunteer in 2015. Your small efforts can make a big difference in the lives of those in need. To join PMAH’s team, please contact the PMAH for an application at 703-792-7663 or director@pmahweb.org, or download an application at http://pmahweb.org/volunteerl.html.
