The deadline for local high school students to apply as 2021 Bank of America Student Leaders is Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. ET. No extensions or exceptions will be granted.

Student Leaders is a unique, competitive, annual summer leadership-development program for some of America’s most promising young people. Since Bank of America began the program in 2004, more than 5,400 high schoolers across the country have benefited from the Student Leaders experience. The Washington, D.C., Metro Area boats several Student Leaders each year, representing a variety of local high schools.

In 2019, reporter John Gonzalez of WJLA-TV produced a great package covering the program, culminating in the National Student Leaders Summit, held at the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C.

This year’s Summit is set for July 12 to 17, and may (like last year’s) be held virtually.

To qualify as a Student Leader candidate, students must:

  • be a high school junior or senior in good standing
  • be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship through the end of September 2021
  • obtain a letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, or school administrator
  • be available to participate in an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization, working 35 hours a week
  • be available to participate in a week-long expenses-paid National Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. (In-person events will comply with local and national guidelines around gatherings and travel, and may be subject to change)
