How many people do you know that started a business during COVID? A business that is thriving, not just surviving?
Local resident Michaela Murphy did just that! It all began in high school; she has always been very passionate about beauty. She is self-taught (thanks YouTube) to do professional make-up for proms, homecoming and weddings. She graduated from Brentsville District High School in 2018, worked as an apprentice doing eyelash extensions, and decided this is what she wanted to pursue as a career.
While everything was shut down due to COVID, she studied to become an esthetician, passed her boards and started The Beauty Effect (TBE) in Haymarket.
In June, she will celebrate her one-year anniversary. TBE has grown to include three additional technicians. They’re currently offering lash extensions and permanent make-up, with plans to expand into other beauty services. Their aim is to continue to make other women look and feel their best!
Her best advice to others trying to figure out their life path is to “find your passion – that way you don’t ‘work’ a day in your life.”
