Looking for something fun to do with the family? Head over to Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center for the free Summer Concert Series starting at 8:00 p.m. every second and fourth Friday through September.
The outdoor Summer Concert Series is the perfect place to spend a fun-filled evening with family and friends. All you have to do is grab your favorite lawn chair and head over to the space in front of Orvis and Uncle Julio’s to hear live music.
Music Events Signal Return of Community Interaction
While Stonebridge’s 2020 Summer Concert Series had to be moved online due to social gathering restrictions, fans of the annual event will be happy to know that the 2021 Summer Concert Series is back in person and still has something for everyone.
After a year of social distancing and virtual events, Anastasia Podorski, Senior Property Manager at JBG Smith, is excited by seeing people back in Stonebridge interacting with their neighbors.
“It felt so empty and sad last year. I was very excited to have people back at Stonebridge,” said Podorski.
While some of Stonebridge’s 2020 events were moved online, they didn’t have the same community feel that Stonebridge was design to encourage. For the live concerts in particular, the difficulty of moving virtual affected both the audience and the performers.
“Music should have an audience,” said Podorski. Even though it was necessary, posting videos of the concerts on Facebook took away audience and performer interaction.
Luckily, for the 2021 Summer Concert Series, the outdoor venue has room for people to dance and kids to play—all while cheering on the performers. Another benefit of being outdoors, said Podorski, is that people who are still cautious can get out of their houses to enjoy entertainment while being able to socially distance.
What to Expect
If you have kids, there’s no need to call a babysitter. The concerts are in a grassy area with plenty of room to kick a ball around. Every time there is an event, kids can be found running around and playing together, Podorski said. You can even come early to browse in the stores and grab a bite to eat at one of Stonebridge’s many restaurants before kicking back and relaxing.
The bands themselves are relatively local and cover popular songs so everyone can sing along. The concert series also features a variety of music, spanning genres from oldies to country to reggae. If you’re a fan of a specific music genre, you can check who is playing on Stonebridge’s events page or Facebook to plan accordingly. Or, if you’re looking to be spontaneous, you can grab your friends and show up.
Just don’t forget to bring a fun attitude and the desire to come dance in the streets!
