The National Museum of the Marine Corps is offering a host of FREE events throughout the summer. Unless otherwise noted, all activities will be held in the Museum’s Leatherneck Gallery. Admission and parking are free.

Family Day – World War I: Marines in France Saturday, June 10, 12:00 – 3:00 p. m.

In June of 1918, the U.S. Marines earned their “Devil Dog” nickname at the Battle of Belleau Wood.   Join us in commemorating the 99th anniversary of this month-long battle. There will be living history demonstrations, crafts and hands-on activities.

Stafford Regional Choral Society “From Sea to Shining Sea” Concert Sunday, July 2, 2:00 -3:00 p. m.

Join us in Leatherneck Gallery for a patriotic concert by the Stafford Regional Choral Society.

Family Day — Secret Codes and Code Talkers Saturday, July 8, 2:00-3:00 p. m.

Marines have been using secret codes to pass communications since the beginning of the Corps. Explore the world of codes from 1775 to today.  Hands-on activities, crafts and more!

MCHF Summer Concert Series featuring U.S. Navy Band’s The Sea Chanters, Wednesday, August 2, 7:00-8:30 p. m.

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is once again hosting a Summer Concert Series at the Museum.

Join us for a summer evening of great music by the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, the United States Navy’s official chorus. The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including sea chanteys and patriotic fare, to opera, Broadway and contemporary music.  The concert will be performed outside on the Museum’s Entry Plaza.

Family Day – Girls Make History, Saturday, August 12, 2017 – 12:00 – 3:00 p. m.

Spend the afternoon with Felicity, Molly, Addie and all their friends while you take a journey through Marine Corps history from 1775 to today.   Games, hands-on activities, special guests, crafts and more!

MCHF Summer Concert Series featuring the U.S. Navy Band Commodores, Wednesday, August 16, 7:00-8:30 p. m.

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is once again hosting a Summer Concert Series at the Museum.

Join us for a summer evening of great music by the U.S. Navy Band Commodores. Jazz is America’s music and the U.S. Navy Band Commodores, the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for over 40 years. Formed in 1969, this 18-member group continues the jazz big band legacy with some of the finest musicians in the world.

The concert will be performed outside on the Museum’s Entry Plaza.  Free Concert.

MCHF Summer Concert Series featuring the Quantico Marine Corps Band, Friday, August 25, 7:00-8:30 p. m.

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is once again hosting a Summer Concert Series at the Museum.  Join us for a summer evening of music by the Quantico Marine Corps Band.

Family Day – Robotics. Saturday, September 9, 12:00-3:00 p. m.

Explore the world of robotics!   Discover how Marine Corps Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) robots function and try your hand at operating one. Talk to Marine Corps robotics experts. Crafts and hands-on activities will be available

“Dog Days of Summer” Event, Saturday, September 16,  10:00 a. m.-2:00 p. m.

NMMC’s annual event celebrating the Dog Days of Summer!

Bring the kids, there will be crafts, a puppet show and an animal scavenger hunt!

Inside the Museum, there will be a Bulldog “Kissing Booth” and birds of prey on display from the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia.

Outside, on the grounds of the Museum, visitors will have a chance to see working dogs in action!  Dogs on leashes are welcome.

World War I Wednesdays

Held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the Month – 10:00 a. m. – 12:00 p. m.

2017 SUMMER DATES:  June 14, June 28, July 12, July 26, August 9, August 23, September 13, and September 27

In commemoration of the centennial of World War I, the National Museum of the Marine Corps Museum will be hosting WWI Wednesday educational displays the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.

Our Education and Community Outreach teams will be displaying WWI uniforms and gear in Leatherneck Gallery.   There will also be activities for children.

 “History In Your Hands”

Held every 3rd Sunday of the Month, 1:00 -3:00 p. m.

2017 SUMMER DATES:  June 18, July 16, August 20 and Sept 17

History In Your Hands (HIYH) is a program for visitors of all ages who are blind or have low vision. It is an opportunity to interact with the collections through tactile exploration of selected objects, and through verbal description, tactile graphics, and other materials for artifacts that cannot be touched. Trained Museum volunteers and Visitor Services staff lead these events.

There is no fee for this program, but pre-registration is required. Registration for the monthly program closes 1 week prior to the event. To register for the monthly program, contact Jack Oblein at 703-432-2622 email jack.oblein@usmc.mil.
