As summer approaches, many homeowners are looking forward to spending time outside, enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. However, it’s important not to let your guard down when it comes to home security. Here are some tips to keep your home safe and secure during the summer months.

Secure Your Doors and Windows

Make sure all doors and windows are securely locked before leaving the house or going to bed. Consider installing deadbolts and security bars on doors and windows for added protection.

Use Timers for Lights

When you’re away from home, use timers for lights to give the appearance that someone is home. This can deter burglars who may be looking for an easy target.

Install a Security System

Consider installing a security system with motion sensors and cameras to monitor your home while you’re away. Many systems allow you to view live footage from your smartphone, so you can keep an eye on your home from anywhere.

Keep Your Yard Maintained

An overgrown yard can provide cover for burglars trying to break into your home. Keep your lawn mowed and trim back bushes and trees to make it harder for burglars to hide.

Don’t Advertise Your Vacation

Plans Avoid advertising your vacation plans on social media or to people you don’t know well. This can alert burglars that your home will be empty and make it an easy target.

Use Outdoor Lighting

Install outdoor lighting around your home, especially near doors and windows. This can deter burglars who prefer to work under cover of darkness.

Keep Valuables Out of Sight

Keep valuables out of sight, especially if they can be seen from the outside of your home. This can include jewelry, electronics, and other expensive items.

Don’t Leave Spare Keys Outside

Avoid leaving spare keys outside, especially in obvious places like under a doormat or flower pot. Instead, consider giving a spare key to a trusted neighbor or friend.

Keep Your Garage Door Closed

Don’t leave your garage door open for extended periods of time. This can give burglars an easy entry point into your home.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the police. This can help prevent burglaries in your neighborhood and keep your home and family safe.

Following these tips can help keep your home safe and secure during the summer months. Don’t let your guard down when it comes to home security, even when you’re enjoying the warm weather and sunshine.
