Supervisor Frank Principi – Walk to School Day

Woodbridge Supervisor Frank Principi joined the students of Featherstone Elementary School this morning in support of Walk to School Day. Walk to School Day is an International program sponsored by Safe Routes to School. This one-day event is part of an international effort to encourage more families to enjoy the many benefits of safely walking and bicycling to school.  Walking to school is one way to increase the health of our children, reduce pollution and create a sense of community.

Last fall, approximately 35 missing links in sidewalks and trails across the Woodbridge District were identified and prioritized. “Watching these children walk to school today, reinforces my goal to connect families to their schools, parks, churches, libraries, and retail centers along safe walking and biking paths,” states Supervisor Principi.

Sidewalks represent a significant investment for any community, estimated at approximately $300 per foot. Funding has been secured for the following high priority locations in the Woodbridge District:

1.      Route 1 at Powell’s Creek

2.      Opitz Blvd from the Wawa to the Library

3.      Dale Blvd/Rippon Blvd at Route 1

Supervisor Principi continues to seek public and private funds to connect the “sidewalks to nowhere” and increase the walkability of the Woodbridge District.
