The New Dominion Choraliers and the American Balalaika Symphony in Concert February 24
Together again! The New Dominion Choraliers of Prince William County, under the direction of Katherine Nelson-Tracey, and the American Balalaika Symphony, under the direction of Peter Trofimenko, will get you swingin’ and rockin’ to their beat with their presentation of “Swingin’ with the Strings” on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas, Virginia 20109. This show will be our fourth performance together and we’re loving every minute!
The program will include rock ‘n roll favorites such as “Do Wah Diddy”, “Splish Splash”, a medley that includes “We Will Rock You” and “Old Time Rock ‘n Roll”, as well as several beautiful melodies including “Top Of The World”, “Only Time”, and “Come Sail Away”. The surprising combination of voices with traditional Russian stringed instruments, woodwinds, brass and percussion will have you dancing in your seat to classics from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s during this fun and unique concert. Surf’s up on the HPAC beach! Catch a wave with the Beach Boys , NDC and ABS! You will surely forget about the winter weather outside!
The New Dominion Choraliers is an award-winning chorus of dedicated amateur and professional musicians and is widely recognized
for its musically diverse performances as well as its commitment to the communities in which it sings. NDC is an Affiliate Arts Organization at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. The American Balalaika Symphony (ABS), one of only seven balalaika orchestras in the United States, is a resident orchestra of the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, VA.
In 2009, the ABS took the top spot in the Strathmore’s 25th Anniversary Competition, besting 34 competitors in the performing arts from Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. ABS is also the winner of the 2007 International Music Golden Trophy Competition, and the 5th annual international competition “Musical Vladivolstok 2007” held under the auspices of Russia’s Federal Culture and Cinematography Agency. In May 2008, ABS conductor and artistic director, Peter Trofimenko, was appointed to the prestigious Russian Academy of Folk Music – the only living conductor of a folk orchestra to be so honored.
