The Virginia General Assembly passed a law in 2014 requiring all students entering sixth grade to have a diptheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine (Tdap) booster. Students who have received a Tdap booster between the age of 7 and 11 do not need another dose. By state law, without proof of this immunization or an exemption on file, children will not be able to enroll in school for the 2018–19 school year.
The booster shot may be listed as T, Td, DTap, and/or Tdap. Parents are urged to call their child’s doctor or local health district if they have questions.
Shots may be obtained from a doctor, military clinic, or the Prince William County Health District. Documentation should be taken to your child’s middle school or Central Registration.
The Prince William County Health District may be reached at 9301 Lee Avenue, Manassas, 703.792.6300, and 4001 Prince William Parkway, Ste. 101, Woodbridge, 703.792.7300.
