Three Girl Scouts registered in eastern Prince William County earned the Gold Award – Girl Scouting’s highest honor. This prestigious award is earned by a select group of Girl Scouts who have demonstrated a high commitment to improving their communities and advocating for lasting change.
Each project must be approved before a girl can begin work on her Gold Award project. Gold Award projects require a commitment from the individual girl of at least 80 hours of work, regardless of the hours spent by any volunteers helping on the project. A project might be completed over the course of a summer—or in the span of a year or more. The Association 80-registered Girl Scouts, and their projects, are:
Natalie Korzuch, Woodbridge – Opening Eyes to Animal Safety: Pets and Wildlife

Natalie (Service Unit 80-9) partnered with a local animal non-profit to create brochures, a patch program, school curriculum, and a guided workshop on animal safety. She also donated a microchip reader to the Animal Services Center. She just graduated from Charles J. Colgan High School.
Kathryn Layton, Nokesville – Women’s Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

Katy (Service Unit 80-5) held a Wikipedia edit-a-thon so contributions of women and underrepresented minorities to the history of our country can easily be referenced within Wikipedia. She just graduated from Charles J. Colgan High School.
Niveda Mahesh, Woodbridge – Reducing Food Waste in Local McDonalds

Niveda (Service Unit 80-6) partnered her local McDonalds with Food Donation Connection to donate surplus food hygienically to a homeless shelter, reducing food wastage. She just graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School.
The Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital (GSCNC) is comprised of 25 counties in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia, and is the largest council in the United States. From March 2022 to March 2023, 164 Girl Scouts in GSCNC earned the Gold Award.
The Council is divided into Associations, and Association 80 serves Girl Scouts who are registered in troops or Service Units in eastern Prince William County. Association 80 is further divided into seven Service Units that include Girl Scouts registered in Occoquan, Lake Ridge, Dale City, Woodbridge, Dumfries, Triangle, Quantico and parts of some Manassas zip codes.
