The Town of Dumfries is proud to announce a historic milestone in its ongoing journey of growth and revitalization. On Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at 3 p.m., the Town will host a Waterfront Key Ceremony at 17999 Possum Point Road, where the former property owners will officially hand over the keys to what will become the Dumfries Waterfront District.
The 160.91-acre property, which represents nearly 22% of the Town’s footprint, will serve as a cornerstone for Dumfries’ long-term vision of a vibrant, walkable community that blends recreation, housing, cultural amenities, and economic opportunity. Positioned along Quantico Creek, the site holds immense potential for the future of Dumfries and its residents.
Mayor Derrick Wood stated, “This ceremony is not just about property, it’s about people. It’s about creating spaces where families can gather, businesses can grow, and history and opportunity can flow together right here in Town of Dumfries,”
Town Manager Tangela Innis agreed, saying, “This Key Ceremony is more than the transfer of property,
it is the start of an exciting new chapter for our Town. The Dumfries Waterfront will open doors to new
opportunities for growth, recreation, and connection. It is a vision rooted in our past, yet reaching boldly
toward our future.”
The Waterfront Key Ceremony will symbolize the formal transition of the site into the stewardship of the
Town of Dumfries, setting the stage for future planning, community engagement, and investment.
