Free training is being offered to parents of special ed students on path to graduation and beyond.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), in partnership with the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities, will hold a free, four-hour training session on Nov. 8 in Manassas for parents of students with disabilities on “critical decision points” that may affect a child’s academic progress and preparation for higher education or a career.

The session in Manassas, and at seven other locations around the Commonwealth, are available to parents of children who are being considered or are currently eligible for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitative Act of 1973.

Parents may register for any of the Critical Decision Points for Families of Children with Disability training on the VDOE website. The deadline to register for the Bristol and Roanoke sessions is Oct. 10.
