The Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum is pleased to announce its Twentieth Anniversary Celebration, sponsored by Shenandoah Smiles. The event is scheduled for April 9, 2016 and is offered at a reduced admission rate of $5.00 per person and is free for members of the museum. The celebration will begin at 9:00 a. m. and last until 5:00 p. m.
In 1994, Peggy Wolfe McKee, Mary Bruce Glaize, and Martha Wolfe dreamed of establishing a children’s science museum in Winchester, Virginia. Sparking creativity and igniting curiosity was their vision. Two years later, on April 20, 1996, their perseverance and dedication resulted in the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum. PWL Since then, hundreds of thousands of visitors have benefited from informal educational and experiential learning at its best.
The Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum still strives to meet the mission developed by its founders by sparking creativity, igniting curiosity, and inspiring learning in visitors of all ages through exhibits, programming, outreach efforts, and special events. Activities planned for the celebration are no different. Museum staff member Paul Limoges stated, “When looking for entertainment on April 9th, we kept those values in mind.” Programs slated for the 20th Anniversary Celebration include:
- Former world champion frisbee player Gary Auerbach
- Magician Ryan Phillips
- Famed choir group Harambe
- Cake contest (and tasting!) for all ages
- Face painting, awards ceremonies, and much more!
Building on its twenty-year foundation, the museum has launched an endowment campaign to activate exciting exhibits along with new and evolving programs for the future. In celebration of its 20th year, friends of the museum are invited to donate $20, $200, $2,000, or more in commemoration of the anniversary.
The museum is at 19 W. Cork St. in Winchester. For more information, visit discoverymuseum.net.
