Georgetown University Adjunct Professor Jeremy Haft will speak at Northern Virginia Community College’s Woodbridge Campus on challenging the theory that America’s debt to China is a national security risk. He posits that America is creating and sustaining jobs across the economy through China trade and investment.
His lecture, “The Myth of China’s Might and What it Means for America?” will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 at the Woodbridge Campus Theatre, 15200 Neabsco Mills Road, Woodbridge, VA 22191. The event is free and open to the public.
Haft is an entrepreneur and book author who has built and run companies in China for over 15 years. His latest venture is a public-private partnership between New York State and Cornell University to create U.S jobs through exporting agri-foods to Chinese hotels, supermarkets, and restaurants.
In 1994, Haft co-founded his first company – one of the first Internet advertising agencies in New York City, which served a roster of Fortune 500 companies. The firm was ranked in the country’s top five by Forrester Research in 1997 and later that year merged with a NASDAQ-listed, Cupertino, Calif.-based global marketing communications company.
Haft is the author of “All the Tea in China” (Penguin, 2007), about America’s enduring competitive advantage over China, and how we can leverage this edge to create jobs. He lectures in the Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and McDonough School of Business. His commentary and analysis on China trade has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, The Financial Times and various cable news outlets.
Haft received his bachelor’s degree cum laude from Columbia University in 1993. His lecture is sponsored by NOVA’s Global Studies Committee.
