The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently announced that the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Mid-Atlantic Section will be building its new headquarters and state-of-the-art tennis facility in Prince William County on 46 acres at Innovation Park.
The new USTA facility will bring more than $15 million in investment in the county and 42 full-time jobs with an annual average salary of $68,250 according to a recent Prince William County Department of Economic Development press release.
The facility will be constructed in phases over the next few years with a completion date set for December 2021.
USTA Mid-Atlantic is excited by the possibilities ahead to provide a positive impact through tennis and contribute to creating a vibrant destination in Prince William County for sports and wellness,” said Chief Executive Officer Tara Fitzpatrick-Navarro. “This is a significant milestone for tennis in the Mid-Atlantic, and we look forward to supporting more local players; introducing the game to all ages, abilities and backgrounds; and the opportunity to inspire the next generation of tennis players in the region.”
Prince William Board Chairman Corey Stewart stated noted that the board is looking forward to having the facility in the county. “This is a great opportunity. It provides not only a new recreation facility for all our residents, but serves as a recreation tourism destination for the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area. This provides our region with educational and competitive sporting opportunities, while enhancing the wide-array of recreational pursuits already offered throughout Prince William County.”
The Board of County Supervisors approved an agreement between the association and the Industrial Development Association of Prince William County and agreed to assign a $100,000 Economic Development Opportunity Fund Grant association as an incentive to bring the project to the county, the release stated.
“The addition of the headquarters for the Mid-Atlantic tennis complex at Innovation Park is sure to spark the interest of the local community along with non-county visitors,” said Jeanine Lawson, Brentsville District Supervisor. “This marks another great addition as we continue to see a diversity of jobs and investment in the Brentsville District.”
The association expects that more than 300,000 people will visit the facility annually to participate in association programs, tournaments, recreational and public tennis play and special events at the tennis complex.
