There’s a new option for urgent care in Prince William County. Last September, Velocity Urgent Care opened its first location in Woodbridge on Prince William Parkway. They are set to open their Port Potomac location in southeast Woodbridge in March. While there are many options for urgent care, Velocity believes they bring something new to the market.

Changing the Culture of Urgent Care

The company is changing the culture of urgent care through a unique values- and patient-centered approach to delivering care. Their method erases the bureaucracy and delivery constraints that often exist in health care.

”What’s important for us is to provide a culture where health professionals are free to do what they intended to do when they entered this field — help people,” said Velocity CEO Alan Ayers.

The values-driven company employs board-certified physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses and looks for its values in employees. First, employees must put people first. They must also be team players, exude positive energy and strive for continual improvement.

“We are acting as one care team with positive energy. It’s how we approach each day,” said Ayers.

At Velocity, Ayers notes that patients find a culture of caring complete with smiles, kindness and employees who lift up everyone around them.

“Our team brings humility, as well,” said Ayers. “We own our mistakes and learn from challenges.”

Velocity encourages ongoing personal and professional development and provides extensive in-house training for their team.

“We want employees who are constantly working to learn and who are not satisfied with the status quo,” he said.

Speed in Service Delivery

As a result of this culture and team-based approach, patients receive what’s most important to them. In addition to compassion and medical expertise, as the name implies, they’ll experience speed in service delivery. According to Ayers, most patients are in and out in 30 minutes.

Another difference Velocity delivers is their waiting room experience. Patients are greeted at a hospitality pedestal — no over-sized hospital counters. While waiting, patients are directed to a comfortable, modern waiting area equipped with flat-screen TVs, an LED fireplace, an elegant stone-finished wall and beverages. And if looking to shorten the wait time, patients can even reserve their spot online before arriving.

Velocity is a high-level urgent care facility serving patients with a variety of illnesses and injuries. Their state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained staff allow them to treat non-life-threatening emergencies requiring immediate care. From stitches and setting fractures to upper-respiratory infections and strep, Velocity is equipped to meet your needs. Their on-site laboratory and digital x-ray machine allow them to efficiently gather the information they need to offer speedy treatment.

Affiliation with Sentara

And their affiliation with Sentara Healthcare allows them to easily provide referrals to appropriate specialists. Velocity can send medical records to primary care physicians for follow up and ensure patients are steered to the proper level of care to meet their needs.

“It’s our goal to work with other providers in the community,” said Ayers, noting he does not see Velocity as a competitor. “We can serve as a front door to primary care or specialists.”

Velocity is proud to be a part of the Prince William County community and donates a portion of proceeds back to community groups. These groups are often schools or organizations that patients designate.

“We engage with school nurses and local athletics programs to provide discounted sports physicals, as well,” said Ayers.

In the health care field where there are so many providers available, it can be tough for consumers to choose.

“Velocity emphasizes what’s important to patients — speed and quality,” said Ayers. “And we’re also here to brighten their day and improve it.”

Velocity Urgent Care is located at 4565 Daisy Reid Avenue in Woodbridge, with the new location opening in March at 16422 Navigation Drive. Learn more at velocityuc.com.
