The Hylton Performing Arts Center announces Veterans Day Week at the Hylton Center. This is a series of celebratory events leading up to Veterans Day designed for veterans, service members, their families, military caregivers, and the community. The week of activities is part of the Veterans and the Arts Initiative. The initiative was founded in 2014 to bring the military community together at the Hylton Center to engage with the arts through performances, workshops, lessons, exhibitions, and special events.
Veterans Day Week begins with the Hylton Center’s ongoing photography exhibition (Oct. 29 to Dec. 7), Exploring Identity with Women Veterans in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery. It continues throughout the Hylton Center with Celebrating Veterans and the Arts at the Hylton Center, Saturday, Nov. 9 from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Kicking off its fifth year, the free, family-friendly event includes light refreshments. It features hands-on visual arts activities, a guitar workshop, and a songwriting presentation by military kids and teenagers.
Saturday evening, The U.S. Army Band Pershing’s Own’s concert “We Honor Them All,” celebrates Veterans with a modern twist. The U.S. Army Band Downrange will be rocking out in front of their orchestra at 7:00 p.m. in Merchant Hall. The week culminates with the Heroes’ Voices National Poetry Contest Reading, Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
All events, including The U.S. Army Band concert, are free and open to the public. Free tickets may be reserved online, by phone at 703-993-7759 or at the Hylton Center Ticket Office, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas).
